Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: Gorgeous location up in the mountains of porto santo. Very pretty and well appointed, with a nice kitchen, hot shower and lovely bedroom up in the eaves. And a pool that was really deep! Owner was lovely and very friendly, drove us up and down the mountain to the village a couple of times and was keen to help. Breakfast was generous enough to be breakfast and lunch. Felt a very family, fun environment, with the kids running around enjoying themselves. Also a v comfy bed with decent bedding that wasn't just a thin sheet.
Negative: The bed and floor creaked with every movement, not ideal if someone gets up in the night for the bathroom. Owners have several loud barking dogs that are chained up outside all day and look not very friendly: this seems common for the island culture but it is irritating in the mornings and not pleasant to be barked at by something that looks like its got bulldog in it every time you arrive at the venue. Not sure why you need so aggressively trained dogs on a peaceful island.
Summary: Beautiful retreat, great startpoint for hiking or snorkelling.
