Summary: The Good: The accommodation itself was very clean and well-appointed in a nice neighborhood The bad: Very poor communication from the owner. We didnt get an email regarding the property until the day we arrived ( I called the owner’s number and after he didnt pick up, I called VRBO who advised that we go to the property and see if anyone greets us, if not, they would arrange another accommodation)and it was in Spanish which necessitated Google translator. If we hadnt had international internet access, we wouldnt have been able to use the translater. The email contained info re the property but did not provide a code to allow access. We arrived and fortunately the maid was cleaning the apt next door and had a key to let us in. After we were already inside, I received an email with the code for the lockbox. Oops wrong code! Then we saw a young man in the apt next door who we discovered was the owner’s son. He informed us that the price of the accommodation quoted was for 1 person and that we would need to pay $8 per day for him! That should have been mentioned in the VRBO ad! In the email regarding the accommodation, they mentioned that if we needed water for the water cooler, they would provide it for 80 pesos ( it’s 39 pesos at Mega supermarket) We said ok, please bring us some, we’ll pay that and we never received that water. We ended up buying our own and bringing it back on our rented motor scooter. The son had to call his father since the door code didnt work and it turned out that it had indeed been changed. Once we had that sorted out and had a set of keys haging inside the door we were able to breathe a bit. Other than the terrible lack of communication, a huge problem was the lack of a water heater! The shower was entirely too cold to bathe in. We’re normally not complainers, but this accommodation was not for us. The uncertainty of whether or not we would be able to get into the space was not something we want to deal with on vacation! And then not having hot water to boot! Conclusion: The owner had a nice accommodation with everything you need, except hot water and clear, timely instructions on how to access the space. The son was polite and appeared to come from a nice family. Still, they’ll need to work on this a bit to get it right. I forgot to mention some young men rented the accommodation next door which is owned by the same owner and they couldnt access their apt either. The son showed up and helped them get in an hr later!
