Around the Area
This home is located in Mariposa, California in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The town of Mariposa (15 minutes away) is the oldest and most famous Gold Rush town in California. Mariposa and the nearby town of Oakhurst (25 minutes away) delight guests with their Wild West roots, diverse dining options, and unique attractions, like a mineralogy museum, a steam train ride, and historic villages. In this area, it’s easy to do tons of outdoor activities like skiing, tubing, water sports, sky diving, canoeing, horseback riding, climbing, and off-road excursions.
The biggest draw to this area is, of course, Yosemite National Park. The South Gate Entrance in Fish Camp is a 45-minute drive from the house and the Yosemite Entrance located in El Portal takes about an hour, although travel times do get longer during weekend rush hours and holidays.
Yosemite is world-renowned for its incredible natural beauty. Within its roughly 1,200 square miles, you’ll find deep valleys, picturesque meadows, giant sequoias, countless waterfalls, expansive wilderness, and miles of scenic hiking trails. There are endless opportunities for adventure, whether it’s hiking, biking, fishing, birdwatching, horseback riding, rock climbing (El Capitan is the biggest rock monolith in the world), stargazing, swimming, boating, skiing, snowshoeing, or scenic drives. It’s a beautiful place to visit year-round, and every season brings a different experience.
In Yosemite and the surrounding area, you’ll have opportunities to view plenty of wildlife, including deer, turkeys, squirrels, hawks, and rabbits. You may even see a coyote, bear, mountain lion, raccoon, opossum, skunk, rattlesnake, tarantula, or scorpion! And be mindful of the poison oak and poison ivy that are part of the natural surroundings.
Our location is also convenient to beautiful Bass Lake, a recreational area known for excellent fishing, hiking, wakeboarding, and watersports. Bass Lake is about 40 minutes from the house.
If you want to immerse yourself in nature and explore the area, there’s no better place to be.
Vrbo House Rules

Pets are welcome! If you visit with pets, please clean up after your furry friends. Please keep them on a leash, as there is a high risk of wildlife encounters, including rattlesnakes.

Wildfires: Please note that all of California, including the Sierra Nevada area, seasonally experiences wildfires between June and November. This is a natural occurrence. (Some plant species like sequoias actually need fire to reproduce!) During high fire risk season, you might experience poor air quality and there is a strict prohibition of setting outdoor fires during this time.
Snow Tires: If you’re visiting in the winter, please be prepared to carry snow chains. While this property is below the snow line and there is a county snow plow service that will clear the property’s access road, these are the Tire Chain Requirements:
Snowy or icy road conditions are common in the mountains of California, including Yosemite, from fall through spring. When these conditions exist, federal regulations (in Yosemite) and state law (outside Yosemite) require that you use chains or cables in order to reduce the chances of accidents. If roads are icy or snowy, expect chain controls to be in effect. On the roads where this is happening in the park, there will frequently be a park ranger checking vehicles and reminding them to install tire chains at this point if necessary. Snow chains are usually not mandatory for 4x4 drive and winter tires.
Power Outages: Lastly, power outages occur in this area a few times a year for no more than a few hours. Because this house is not equipped with a generator, when there are power outages, there is no heating, cooling, hot water, or electrical appliances.
Guests will need a vehicle for their stay. The closest airport is Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT ~1 hour 20 min away). There is no local taxi company or car service available in the area.
