Your Mallorca experience begins when this Finca (Olive Press farmhouse) was built more than 400 years ago on a col in the mountains.
Strategically located in 1625 for Olive oil production among ancient olive groves, finca Son Viguet is perfectly located in Mallorca. While everything (shops & restaurants) are easily accessible & visible below with panoramic views of the whole southwest corner of island, your family will have the whole UNESCO protected mountain side to yourselves.
This majestic fully equipped 500 square meter finca (farmhouse) with two private wings sits on a col 260 meters above sea level. We have been hosting families from all over the world, of all ages for over 40 years. As experienced hosts for everyone from new borns to teens, parents & great grand parents all will feel at home at Finca Son Viguet.
A labyrinth of walking trails through the surrounding pine forests were terraced for olive and almond orchards centuries ago. This Finca, perched on a ridge was strategically located for farmers to bring their harvests of grain and olives for pressing into oil & ground into flour.
In 1973 the current owner and his parents found the ruin after it had been abandoned 50 years earlier during the Spanish Civil War. In the 70s it took 10 years to restore the ancient finca to modern living standards. Since 2010 it took another 10 years to transform the family home into a 4.5-star vacation experience for special occasions & family reunions.
TODAY as you enter the gate, you are welcomed by a cactus garden, cascading bougainvilleas, climbing roses, oleander, lemon, fig & pomegranate trees, and the most spectacular vistas of the Mediterranean Sea, the Traumuntana mountains to the north and the Andratx Valley & Mediterranean Sea to the south.
Recently designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site, the vistas of the Traumuntana mountains, at this 800 feet elevation are breathtaking. You will be tempted to linger in the driveway for 6 + cars and enjoy the smells of flower blossoms and views before entering the gate. The paved driveway to this exclusive retreat is 300 meter long, way off the main road providing privacy and tranquility.
INSIDE this authentically restored farmhouse are 7 bedrooms and one small nursery, 5 full bathrooms and two half-bathrooms and a fully equipped brand new authentic kitchen with modern appliances perfect for group cooking (or caterers which can be arranged). Both the kitchen & dining rooms serve as the centre of the home and have open wood fireplaces supplied by ample wood fuel. And of course there is wi-fi internet access throughout, a 55" Smart Flat Screen TV to watch movies, and a library of books.
The formal dining & living rooms and kitchen are divided by 3-foot thick walls with arched passage ways between all three principle rooms.
THE KITCHEN has vaulted beamed ceilings, the original wood burning oven, gas oven & electric hub on the stone centre island. You'll love the view of the Traumuntana Mountain range and the walk-out to a back terrace complete with a small garden and BBQ. The kitchen is fully equipped to accommodate large groups with two dishwashers, two large fridges, coffee machines, blender, toaster and microwave. There are also two clothes washing machines.
BEDROOMS AND BATHS: In the main house block there are 5 bedrooms - 4 of which are on the second floor serviced by 2 brand new 3-piece bathrooms. Two of the upper bedrooms (both with King size beds) face south with spectacular vistas of the Med. The two north facing bedrooms (towards the mountains) both have wash basins with hot and cold running water. The 5th bedroom (with a divisible King size bed) is on the ground floor with a walk-out to the terrace and a private the 3-piece bathroom (ideal for the elderly).
The 6th bedroom with a King bed, is a self contained apartment yet structurally connected to the main house but is only accessible from the pool terrace. This "pool apartment", has its own brand new modern private 3-piece bathroom, has air conditioning and enjoys spectacular views to the south. There is a 7th 2-piece bathroom in the pool wing for those using the pool area.
The Olive Press Wing, is a magnificent 7th bedroom (the largest) suite with divisible King size bed, air conditioning and its own 4-piece bathroom ensuite, fireplace and commanding view of the valley below. It also has a smaller bedroom (8th) for baby, child or elderly needing attention.
DINING OPTIONS; Choose from one of 5 enchanting dining experiences on the four outside terraces of this remarkable property or the two interior dining areas (the kitchen and formal dining room). Under the gazebo on the main front terrace is a new teak table that seats 14 comfortably. A local chef, can also delight you with his international culinary treats, by shopping, cooking and cleaning up after each meal that you must book in advance. BBQ nights are held on the northwest terrace off the formal dining room.
GARDEN
The gardens of this mountain retreat are the owners constant source of pride. The pool is flanked by bougainvilleas, lavender and an almond grove. Sitting by the pool with the distant sound of the sheep bells as they climb the amphitheatre of hills is sublime. Private hiking trails are accessible right off the pool terrace into the National parkland that surround this home. This tranquil location is rare treat of complete privacy where clothes are optional.
THE VILLAGE below.
The nearest village is a 1.5 km walk down a paved country lane (the shortcut) or 3 kms by the main road. The plaza is the center of this ancient Moorish town with a quaint, fully equipped convenient store, a bank, post office, natural and traditional pharmacy, bakery, and several wonderful restaurants and cafes, and a magnificent church. The cafes at the plaza are open from the early morning until 1 or 2 or 3 at night (depending on how much fun you are having - the owners tend to stay open as long as you are ordering.
THE TOWN OF ANDRATX & PUERTO
Just 7 kms away in the Puerto you can hob-nob with rich and famous of Europe. Puerto Andratx is one of the King and Queen of Spain's favorite dining experiences. They drop anchor in the fishing port or tie up on the quay and choose from about 30 remarkable restaurants. In fact boaters and residents of Palma 30 kms away often make the trip to Puerto just for the remarkable dining experiences and exquisite atmosphere. And sailors from all over the world make Puerto their destination and often their permanent mooring.
BEACHES: From this property you are only 15 to 20 minutes drive from a huge variety of beaches. Some are huge sprawling beaches with sun umbrellas and concessions stands, others are quiet little pebble beaches only known by the locals. Our property manager, knows every nook and cranny of this island.
ROAD CYCLING & MOUNTAIN BIKING
The roads and trails surrounding this 10-acre property are the nirvana of road cyclists and mountain bikers all across Europe and North America. Each February all the Pro cycling road teams come to Mallorca to train on the mountain cols and flat roads of Mallorca and all are at the door step of this unique property. So bring your team or your family! The owner is a keen cyclist and hiker himself and is familiar with every col climb and screaming decent on the island.
The owner can provide you with a superb local chef who will shop, cook and clean up for your group, but "our chefs Jemma and Max" are so popular you need to book them well in advance for your special ocassions.
Full carbon Bicycles can also be rented in Paguera only 10 kilometres away at Rad-international.de Bicycles must be booked in advance to ensure availability.
