Positive: Gooda partment, marred by poor hosting, lack of basics, and uncomfortable questions The apartment in Caslano is well-kept, peaceful, and in a beautiful location near the lake and local shops. It has a spacious layout, strong Wi-Fi (great for remote work), and access to a large shared pool. Once inside, the experience was mostly comfortable—though very warm.
Negative: Let’s talk about what went wrong. 1. Booking confusion: Despite having a confirmed, non-refundable reservation from Booking.com, the host later told me the apartment was only rentable from Saturday to Saturday—something never stated on the listing. Instead of taking responsibility, I was asked to cancel or change dates. I had to insist on staying per the original agreement. The host eventually relented, but not without several tense messages. 2. Missing and incorrect check-in information: No instructions were provided. The listing had the wrong building number (listed as #21, but the actual address is #19), and the host was unreachable by phone for hours. I ended up walking the neighborhood with a relative, asking neighbors and eventually calling a custodian’s number posted on a nearby building. By sheer luck, a kind local woman helped me locate the key and access the apartment. The host responded only much later. 3. No air conditioning or fan: The apartment has no A/C and not even a fan. In summer heat, that’s a serious issue. The host’s only advice was to keep the shutters closed in the morning—more survival tip than hospitality. This should be clearly disclosed in the listing. 4. Pricing behavior: After my booking was locked in, the nightly rate nearly doubled. It’s hard not to suspect that once I paid a lower rate, the host increased the price for future guests to maximize profit. It’s not illegal—but it’s not guest-friendly either. 5. Early check-out pressure: On my final morning, cleaners arrived early and asked me to leave before check-out time. I had 20 minutes left, but was rushed out—so quickly that I forgot my laptop. Thankfully it was recovered, but it left a sour final impression. 6. Inappropriate question: Early in the process, I was asked what country I was from—despite my full information already being provided through the platform.
