Glen Bank is a striking 5 star Gold Award property situated in the centre of the charming village of Brampton in the picturesque rural Eden Valley area of Cumbria, with easy access and one mile from the market town of Appleby. The cottage is located in a unique triangle within easy reach of the Lake District, on the edge of the extended Yorkshire Dales and close to the popular Pennine Way used by both walkers and cyclists. The dramatic and beautiful surroundings offer guests a huge choice of local walks on their doorstep or a variety of enticing locations within easy reach. This beautiful Cumbrian longhouse has been loving restored and extended by its owners to create an oasis of understated luxury. The traditional red sandstone building dates from 1755 and has been remodelled adding four new bathrooms, five beautifully appointed bedrooms named after local fells along with landscaped gardens. It also has a large well-proportioned kitchen, impressive reception room and cosy library with original Cumbrian fireplaces complete with wood burning stoves. A stylish Orangery provides an elegant dining hall looking onto the central courtyard with underfloor heating and wood burning stove. Glen Bank has glorious views of the Pennine Ridge on one side and the Cumbrian Fells on the other. Every room has been individually designed with beautiful furniture and original art to create a sensuous experience blending a high level of comfort with generous accommodation for large sociable groups along with private hideaways. The traditional features have been carefully restored and the attention to detail ensures that guests feel very much at home. Take a visit to The New Inn at Brampton, located just 500 yards from Glen Bank. The New Inn in a free house country pub with history linking to Oliver Cromwell and there are regular events and evenings to suit all ages, dogs are welcome too! The New Inn offers a full range of quality pub food at great prices and a range of locally-brewed ales. The village of Brampton faces the stunning Dufton Fells in the Eden Valley. If you don't fancy a drive, there is an abundance of great walks on the doorstep. Alternatively there is easy access to the Lake District National Park with Ullswater 25 minutes away or the Yorkshire Dales National Park a similar distance in the other direction. The pretty market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is just a mile away and has a variety of local shops including two excellent butchers, a bakery, gift shops, a good selection of cafés and pubs, a beautiful castle and the famous Settle to Carlisle railway. There is a good choice of pubs within a mile or so in Dufton, Long Marton or Bolton and many others slightly further afield. Accommodation in Detail As you drive through the gates into the courtyard, guests immediately realise that Glen Bank is going to be something special. Park your car underneath the impressive deck and walk into the central courtyard passing the quirky Dog Shower and beautiful Organgery entering the property through a spacious boot room that is ideal for all the outdoor gear. From here the three principle living spaces await you. The large reception room is tastefully furnished with sumptuous sofas, antique furniture and original artwork. This characterful room includes a wood burning stove and the owners have retained the original feature fireplace with Victorian brass and black leaded range. The large kitchen is well equipped to the very highest standard and is the real heart of the home with its large farmhouse breakfast table that can seat the entire household. An electric range with six ring induction hob, dishwasher, microwave and American style fridge freezer adds the modernity to this beautiful kitchen. The cosy library, with a great selection of books for all ages is an ideal retreat to sit and relax with its welcoming log burning store and French doors opening onto a private courtyard. Overlooking the garden, the exceptional orangery dining hall, with handmade larch dining table, large enough to comfortably seat the household opens onto the central courtyard and is the ideal venue to host special family celebrations and social gatherings with friends. Choose from any one of five superb bedrooms. On the ground floor, with its own terrace is a delightful superking bedroom (this room can also be presented as a twin room, please specify when booking) offers a luxurious ensuite bathroom with walk in rainwater shower and bath. On the first floor there are four further bedrooms, three presented as king size and the final room can be presented as either a superking or twin beds (again, please specify when booking). These beautifully finished bedrooms are complemented by two luxurious ensuite bathrooms and a superb family bathroom, all with double rainwater showers. Returning to the ground floor, the utility area is equipped with two washing machines and a tumble drier. There is also a ground floor cloakroom with WC and facilities in the plant room to dry off wet outdoor gear and boots. The courtyard and gardens have been cleverly designed to offer a choice of secluded areas and more sociable spaces including an impressive deck. Ample tables and chairs allow groups to congregate around the barbecue or just sit with a glass of wine enjoying the views. The stunning deck, with breath taking views of the Pennine Ridge and the Cumbrian Fells is the ideal spot to wine and dine with friends and family on a summers evening. The property also features a secure bike store which can accommodate 10 bikes and is fitted with external security lights for added protection. The area is a mecca for keen cyclists with a huge number of exciting cycle routes to choose from. Location The Eden Valley lies to the north east of the Lake District and offers so many places to visit and things to do. A haven for walkers and cyclists, there are countless beautiful tracks and trails to discover along the Pennine Way including the popular circular walk to the nearby Dufton Pike. The historic village of Appleby-In-Westmoreland is just a mile from the cottage, with a lovely selection of local shops and welcoming pubs and eateries, is home to the historic Appleby Castle, which includes one of the few remaining intact Norman Keeps in Great Britain dating back 900 years and is a great choice for history buffs. Book ahead for a tour of the castle or pop in for afternoon tea, Appleby Castle also has fishing rights on the River Eden and keen anglers can book ahead online. Keen golfers can visit the superb Appleby Golf Club which welcomes visitors and has an excellent clubhouse. Within easy reach of Glen Bank and Brampton, Ullswater is regarded by many to be the most beautiful of all the lakes in the Lake District. Much of the lake, its shore and surrounding fells are accessible for visitors to explore, where you will find some of the finest walking, cycling and water sports including sailing and kayaking, along with the amenities of the lakeside villages.
