Draga Bašćanska is a village on the island of Krk, located in the municipality of Baška. Hilly terrain predominates in the northern part, and the lower part of the basin is rich in fertile land that has been cultivated for centuries. A constant stream of water flows through the valley, the so-called Suha Ričina or Vela Rika. Vegetation in the valley is very dense, and karst and golet with low vegetation predominate. The storm is very strong in these areas due to the openness in the northwest - southeast direction, but it is still more sheltered than neighboring Baška. Neighboring villages are Jurandvor and Batomalj.
On the eastern and western sides of Draga Baška and the entire Baška valley are two mountain massifs with the highest peaks on the island: Kozlja (464 m), Diviška (471 m), Hlam (461 m), which are the peaks of the eastern massif, and the highest, Obzova (568 m). and then Veli vrh (541 m), Orljak (537 m), which are the peaks of the western massif.
In 1380, the Venetians destroyed and burned the Baška castle. That castle was located on a hill above today's Baška, in the place where the church of St. John the Baptist and the local cemetery. Since then, the inhabitants of the destroyed castle began to settle mainly in the location by the sea, at the foot of the old Baška castle. Over time, the settlement of Primorje (today's Baška) was established in that place. A smaller part settled in several places throughout the Bašća valley in order to be closer to the fertile land. Until the 16th century, today's Baška was called Primorje or Draga Bašćanska. Only from the 16th century did the two names begin to be distinguished, so that the name Draga Bašćanska refers to the villages in the interior, i.e. in the Bašća valley, and the name Primorje only refers to the settlement by the sea. As the population grew over time and so did the villages, in the 19th century the name Draga Bašćanska became even narrower and was used exclusively for the northernmost group of hamlets along the road leading to Krk, which today form a unique settlement. These villages were: Garina, Štefanići, Mekotica, Bneci, Tomaševo, Božičin, Priforići or Dujmovći, Krićev klanac, Krićevca, Marićevo, Frgačići, Pod Svetim Jurje, Za Svetim Jurje, Sveta Jelisafta and Grgurići, which are considered to be the oldest and in which there is also a parish church.
