Positive: We were in Samaná for one night only as we had booked a morning whale watching tour and didn't want to drive all the way from our resort near Puerto Plata at o'dark thirty. Basically our only real criteria was that the accommodation was cheap and this proved adequate. It was clean and comfortable for the night. I showered and the water was hot, the AC worked well, and we didn't encounter and huge problems, just some minor inconveniences. We had one of the best burgers ever at Momochito's in town - get the tostones with it, you'll thank me later.

Negative: 1. The listing says they speak Spanish, English, and German at the property but when we arrived the person checking us in didn't speak English other than to disbelieving exclaim about us not speaking Spanish and tutting at us. We did not feel very welcome. 2. Cash paid in local currency at an exchange rate that didn't align with the Booking.com rate quoted. Not egregious but it didn't seem like such a deal and no change was offered when we didn't have exact cash. 3. We booked a room with a queen bed and pull out couch. We got a double and the couch that was as hard as a rock. 4. The WiFi did not work. There were passwords written on the back of the door but we couldn't connect. When we asked the receptionist she shrugged and said it wasn't working. Not sure if it was temporarily out or a more pervasive problem. 5. It was quite noisy for such a seemingly quiet area. It seems like the community gathers nearby to socialize after dark and well into the night. The voices carried and things got a little rowdy at times. 6. Breakfast was supposedly available on site for an additional charge but we have no idea how you go about getting it, we ended up having to find somewhere in town.
