On the picturesque Lake Orta (I-28016 Orta / San Giulio, Strada Statale, Villa Stresa No. 6) is our villa Orta with 2 apartments. Both apartments were completely renovated in 2016. From each apartment you have an unobstructed view of the island of St. Giulio and the mountains opposite.
The 5.000 sqm plot is overgrown with palm trees and fruit trees. A private bathing and boat place is available. The garden can be shared by all guests. Beach chairs and seating are available.

Summary: The apartment was very smartly decorated and had plenty of cooking equipment but there were a number of big pitfalls in the apartment. Firstly, like other reviewers have noted, arranging access to the apartment was challenging. We were given the wrong telephone number for the caretaker, so we asked the letting company to let him know a rough time we would be there. When we finally got the correct telephone number for the caretaker, it was impossible to communicate with him as he spoke only German and I only speak a limted amount. The apartment was completely locked up and we didn’t have access for over an hour, whilst we were waiting for the other tenants to return and let us in to the building. When the caretaker turned up, he was cross about having to come out again, and charged us €15 to hire some smelly old bed sheets and towels, and left us to make the beds. We’ve had better sheets in a hostel! This unfortunately really tainted the whole stay. Secondly, the beautiful location of the apartment right by the lake meant that we were plagued by mosquitoes and, given that there are no mosquito nets on the windows and no air conditioning/fans in the flat, you either are left with sweltering in the heat to avoid the mossies, or resign yourself to sleeping in slightly cooler conditions but being bitten while you sleep! The other tenants were friendly enough, but you do somewhat feel like you’re imposing, as you have to walk through their patio area to get to be entrance of the apartment. When we tried to complain to the letting agency, they did not have anything to say. Overall a beautiful location and Orta is charming, but for the price of the apartment, the management really need to improve their check - in arrangements, provide some decent linen and a couple of fans or mosquito nets on the windows to make this anywhere near worth the money. We would love to return to Orta, but I doubt we would stay at this apartment again.
