Positive: Very clean Extra silent area Super safe, never felt bothered by anyone, the neighborhood looks quite "wealthy" (many other hyttes around) We were in the summer (mid>end of August) and there were almost no insects! Not even a single mosquito Close to the coastline Mesmerizing view right from the windows Closeness to the nature Nice terrace where you can make breakfasts/dinners + a little garden when you can throw a picnic Very well equipped kitchen Big house, 1 master bedroom and 2 additional bedrooms, 2 separate bathrooms, a big living room with a fire spot and some board games and cards The house is easy to keep cool/warm, The owner really paid attention to details when decorating the interiors, they're vintage style, you can find there several paintings, antiques, 2 recipe books from ~1920 y.! 🤯 Even an architecture plan of the building from the past century, the hytte is really old and with a soul (if I remember correctly, the plan is from 1956?). A memorable vacation place! A spot to park your car (and charge) Quite close to grocery shops (we drove always by car to the nearest Kiwi, 10 min ride but there's Rema 1000 available even by walk) I recommend Komoot to plan hiking paths. There's at least 1 (a loop) beginning right by the hytte, other nice paths are ~30 min by car, eg. next to Asker or obviously around Oslo Cleaning (before and after, not during the stay), electricity, water included in the price (which I got to know when doing a research is not always a standard!)
Negative: It was our 1st time in Norway and now we know that it's typical to the whole country that you won't really have a night life on hand there or multiple restaurants and cafes around. Usually you need to drive to get it and it's not like there will be plenty spots to choose from. I highly recommend Sætre Gård for dining out of home. They have great waffles and overall Norwegian cuisine, the interior is just wow (very cozy hytte+a garden). However, when renting such a beautiful hytte it's best to cook at home and enjoy the atmosphere there or take your food in lunch boxes. Advices: 1) take your own lunch boxes. Although the kitchen is really very well equipped, there were no lunch boxes and this might be helpful if you'd like to hike, 2) either take your own bed sets and bath towels or make sure with the owner ahead that they provide it. We had no idea that it's a cultural thing in Norway that when you rent a hytte you bring your own stuff. This was a problem as it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the offer on Booking or the links provided later on. As tourists from different countries (flying with obviously limited luggage), we don't have to know such things and it would be nice to be informed beforehand, and to have these provided is a standard elsewhere in the world, therefore we couldn't have guessed that this time might be different. However, the owner was kind and solved the problem the same day, 3) without a rented car (at an airport) it would be probably impossible or very hard to explore the area. There are direct buses to Oslo, getting there by a car costs a lot of effort and money (paid tunnels, very expensive parking lots in the city, so you'd better park outside the city next to a train/bus station and take a public transport). Therefore I'd recommend to rent a car to explore other places than Oslo and to Oslo to drive by a bus (or like I mentioned, park outside the city).
